Nathan was born in Barberton, OH. Elizabeth was born in Joliet, IL. How they ended up together?...only God knows! Yet they have been happily married since 2003 and have two incredible daughters, Ivy and Mercy. God has blessed them ever since they met at Indiana Bible College back in 2001. Since then they’ve been involved in serving in various ministerial roles in Ohio, Florida, and South Carolina.
Now they are excited to serve the people and the community of Columbia, SC. They both have bold and exciting vision for this city and know that God is going to do great things!
Matmon & Hannah Harrell
Associate Pastor
Matmon and Hannah have been married since 2008 and have the privilege of parenting two energetic sons, Micah and Levi. They met at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL and have served as ministry leaders in Florida, and North Carolina.
In 2018, they felt called by God to move to Columbia, SC to support the vision and mission of Aphesis Church. They bring with them passion, experience, and a genuine love for people.

David is originally from Columbia, South Carolina. He grew up in a vibrant, faith-filled household as one of four siblings. This upbringing fostered a lifelong passion for God, community, and athletics. When I’m not at the church, I’m usually spending time with friends or staying active through sports—specifically basketball, football, and golf.
2023 marked the year the Lord provided clear direction and began opening doors for him to serve the mission and congregation of Aphesis Church.

Ryan and Julianne's story began in high school. When you look up the meaning of "High School Sweethearts", you'll find the Butlers! Shortly after high school, Ryan enlisted into the Air Force and married his sweetheart. With their son and daughter, Talan and Olivia, they have been stationed in Florida, North Carolina, Okinawa, and now the Columbia, SC area.
During their time in Okinawa, Ryan felt the call and burden to work with young people. As willing vessels, God has opened doors for them to serve on the Aphesis Church ministry team. They have a deep passion for people, for pet dogs, and for delicious barbecue!

Brian and Jennifer are a husband-and-wife ministry team...a real "power couple" for the Lord. Married since 2010 and proud parents of five incredible children. With roots in Sumter and Lee Counties, their journey from small towns to Columbia reflects a life shaped by faith and purpose. Passionate about people, they are dedicated to serving their community and developing the next generation. Their mission is simple: invest in families, empower youth, and pursue God’s Kingdom with authenticity and heart.
Don Kennedy has faithfully served in ministry since being born again in 1976 in Santa Maria, California. Following God’s call through military service and missions, he has ministered and planted works across Turkey, Portugal, Germany, and the United States. He has held license with the UPCI and the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ throughout his ministry roles. He has served under many respected leaders while pastoring, building churches, and supporting district growth. He is an incredible teacher of the word of God and his passion to share the gospel is his most tangible quality. We are all grateful that his journey has led him here as a vital component of Aphesis Church.
Galiena Patten
Hospitality Coordinator
Galiena was born in Morganton, NC, and later made her way to Columbia, SC after college. Her and her late husband are proud parents of four incredible young adults—Daquan, Quinton, David III, and Mia. She has faithfully served in various ministry roles throughout her years in South Carolina. In 2022, following a season of profound personal loss with the passing of her husband, the Lord led her to Aphesis Church.
She brings a wealth of experience, an incredible eye for detail, and most importantly a deep compassion for every heart that walks through the doors. Galiena is devoted to serving and advancing the Kingdom of God with care and excellence.
